Music at St. John’s

Music helps a child develop a well rounded outlook on life and prepares her for a lifetime of musical enjoyment.

St. John’s encourages all of our children to become involved in some kind of musical activity. The upper grades have a musical appreciation class as part of their curriculum. Here they not only learn of the great music of the past but also begin to master music notation and timing.

Each class prepares songs to sing in our church services about 3-4 times per year. In addition, they look forward to presenting several selections during a spring musical.

In the upper grades children may elect to join one of our fine musical groups:

Celebration Choir

is a Junior Choir that sings in unison and in two-part music. They expand their musical knowledge and find enjoyment in performing works in praise of their God.

Tone Chimes / Handbells

Our children really enjoy making music with our tone chimes. Each child is responsible for one or two individual notes, teaching them cooperation and teamwork, in addition to musical notation and counting.

Just added for the 2003-2004 school year, is a true hand-bell choir! Three new octaves of handbells have just been purchased and we look forward to expanding our skills and participation.

Instrumental / Voice Instruction

Individualized instruction in various instruments and voice is also available by private arrangement with one of our music teachers, Miss Hillary-Heidi Berndt. This is one-on-one private instruction and starts the student on their way to mastering an instrument.
